Conigrave; (4) Relationship of body water to carbohydrate-deficient transferrin measures, by Larry Martinez; and (5) Platelet adenylyl cyclase activity as a trait marker of alcohol dependence, by Paula L. Hoffman.

Risk factors for suicide attempts in patients with alcohol dependence or abuse and a history of depressive symptoms: a subgroup analysis from the WHO/ISBRA study.
INTRODUCTION AND AIMS Alcoholism, depression and suicide attempts (SA) are strongly interrelated. The aims were to determine risk factors and develop a prognostic predictor model for SA in a subgroup of patients with a history of alcohol dependence or abuse and depressive symptoms. DESIGN AND METHODS A subgroup analysis from the data of the World Health Organisation (WHO)/the International So...
متن کاملValidation of the Bayesian Alcoholism Test compared to single biomarkers in detecting harmful drinking.
AIMS Conventional tests for alcohol dependence often fail to detect hazardous and harmful alcohol use (HHAU) accurately. We previously validated the Bayesian Alcoholism Test (BAT) for the detection of HHAU among males. This uses 15 biochemical and clinical variables, including questionnaire data to calculate the probability of harmful (>80 g alcohol/day), hazardous (40-80 g/day) and 'moderate' ...
متن کاملCDT, GGT, and AST as markers of alcohol use: the WHO/ISBRA collaborative project.
BACKGROUND Estimates of the performance of carbohydrate deficient transferrin (CDT) and gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) as markers of alcohol consumption have varied widely. Studies have differed in design and subject characteristics. The WHO/ISBRA Collaborative Study allows assessment and comparison of CDT, GGT, and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) as markers of drinking in a large, well-chara...
متن کاملReview Trait Markers for Alcoholism: Clinical Utility
Because alcoholism is a multi-factorial psychiatric disorder, with both psychosocial and biochemical/genetic factors leading to its manifestation in any one individual, the presence of biochemical/ genetic factors alone may not lead to the manifestation of the disorder. There are numerous difficulties associated with identification of a trait abnormality in a disorder that requires suitable soc...
متن کاملMicrosatellite mapping of quantitative trait loci affecting carcass traits on chromosome 1 in half-sib families of Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica)
The objective of this study was to identify the quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting carcass traits on chromosome 1 in Japanese quail. The populations comprised of 422 progeny in 9 half-sib families. Phenotypic data on carcass weight, carcass parts, and the internal organs were collected on 422 progeny. Nine half-sib families were genotyped for 8 microsatellite markers covering chromosomes 1...
